a living room

Solo exhibition, 4 - 14 January 2020 at 3331 Arts Chiyoda, Tokyo

Artist statement:
a living room is a sound installation that seeks to expand or de-center the way we listen. The work takes leave of Eric Satie's 1917 work Furniture Music, a suite of short pieces designed to be heard in various areas of the house. The work will be realised by transforming a gallery space into a standard living room. The objects in the room would imitate or literally be the objects found in a living room - a coffee table, armchair, indoor plant. For the 3331 iteration, bone conductor transducers are placed in the headrest of a armchair, enabling visitors to hear the music when they rest their head on the chair.

This projected was supported by the NSW Government through Create NSW and the University of Sydney Vice-Chancellor's Mobility Fund.
